The various spiritual traditions all agree that good discernment requires regular interaction with a spiritual guide. Putting our lived experience into words authentically and personally helps us to see it more clearly. At the same time, the accompanier provides us with an essential element of accountability, becoming a mediator of the maternal presence of the Church.
